Luke 1:59-61

59 So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias.
60 His mother answered and said, “No; he shall be called John.”
61 But they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”

The reply from the neighbours and relatives of Elizabeth present an interesting and common scene around us. Elizabeth and Zacharias wanted to name their son as John as directed from God. But the immediate question from the neighbours had a sound of discouragement. They did not obviously approve her choice! And they also placed their reason for disagreement.

This sound of discouragement may be experienced even in our life. Driven by the guidance of God we may take some decisions or choices but immediate responses around may have a cry of disagreement. People may give you long lectures about the challenges involved or other reasons to move you out of your decision. But if you are sure of God’s guidance, Hold on! Stand firm and your word of encouragement or miracle will arrive in due time!

To bring the choice of Elizabeth to an end, the neighbours and relatives seeked the guidance of Zechariah. But to their astonishment, he supported his wife. Adding to their surprise, at once the mute man’s mouth opened and he praised God.

Be strong in your decisions if directed by God, let no man thwart it. In His time, He will perform the miracle in your life.

Let your faith rest on God and not Man!

God bless you…
